Senior IT Project Manager

Summary

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading teams to deliver complex technology projects by utilizing project management best practices in Agile and waterfall delivery methodologies. This role ensures schedules, financials, scope, and performance requirements of the project are met. It requires leadership with all areas of the IT organization, software and hardware vendors, functional business groups, as well as various management levels and senior management. It includes management of issues, risks and project change requests to ensure successful and on-time project delivery. In addition, this role contributes to process improvement initiatives as it relates to improving project delivery.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives that involve multiple lines of business
  • Full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment for one major or several minor initiatives simultaneously
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget to ensure the project(s) directly support the achievement of strategic objectives as defined in the business case
  • Identify and report on project success criteria results, metrics, test and deployment management activities
  • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and excellence
  • Participate in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization
  • Prepare estimates and detailed project plan for all phases of the project
  • Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks and issues, communicating across leadership
  • Understand interdependencies between technology, operations and business needs
  • Monitor, track and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies and critical path deliverables
  • Manage project and program issues and risks to mitigate impact to baseline
  • Identify and develop trusted adviser relationship with project and program stakeholders, sponsors and university stakeholders
  • Work with project and business leadership to identify needed project resources and ensure availability and allocation
  • Develop / execute communication strategy with all levels of project team, including delivering effective executive level communication

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years as a project manager in a IT environment
  • Strong working knowledge of various software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), Microsoft Project and SmartSheet
  • A proven history of delivering multiple small to large size technology projects
  • Deep understanding of waterfall and agile methodologies and the ability to efficiently apply the appropriate method as the situation demands
  • Vendor management experience, including but not limited to leading through RFP initiatives, negotiations, and professional service engagements
  • Exceptional planning, coordination and analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex development tasks to non-technical resources and stakeholders
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral presentation and communication skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer- or business-related discipline or equivalent job experience required
  • Certified Scrum Master and / or Project Management Professional certifications a plus
